Overview

Cytoplasmic 60S subunit biogenesis factor ZNF622 (ZNF622) is a zinc finger motif-containing protein found in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, characterized specifically by C2H2 zinc finger motifs that are canonical DNA-binding modules, though its direct DNA binding is not confirmed[3][1]. ZNF622 is involved in the cytoplasmic maturation of the 60S ribosomal subunit, suggesting a role in ribosome assembly and protein synthesis[2][5]. In addition, ZNF622 participates in the regulation of apoptosis and cellular stress responses through interactions with signaling proteins such as ASK1 (apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1), MPK38, and B-MYB—interactions that appear to involve redox-sensitive mechanisms[1]. Recent studies highlight its antiviral function by limiting lytic growth of human adenovirus and modulating interactions of viral core proteins with host chromatin[1]. While ZNF622 has no directly approved drugs or well-established clinical biomarker roles, it is implicated in major cellular processes relevant to cell death, stress signaling, ribosomal biogenesis, and viral infection[1][2].
