Cytoplasmic deoxycytidine kinase (dCK) is a cytoplasmic enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of deoxycytidine (dC), deoxyadenosine (dA), and deoxyguanosine (dG), as well as their nucleoside analogs. It is a key enzyme in the nucleoside salvage pathway, recycling preformed nucleosides for DNA synthesis. dCK plays a role in maintaining balanced pools of DNA precursors, DNA repair, and apoptosis. It also activates various therapeutic nucleoside analogs used in cancer chemotherapy and antiviral treatments. Inhibitors targeting dCK are being explored therapeutically to modulate its activity.
