Cytoplasmic linker associated protein 1 (CLASP1) is a conserved microtubule-associated protein primarily involved in the regulation and stabilization of microtubule dynamics, particularly at kinetochores and the mitotic spindle during cell division[1][2][3]. CLASP1 participates in the attachment of microtubules to the cell cortex and is essential for correct chromosome alignment, segregation, and spindle assembly[1][2][4]. It helps prevent aneuploidy by ensuring proper mitotic fidelity, and its dysfunction results in chromosomal instability, a hallmark of many cancers[2][4]. Beyond mitosis, CLASP1 is involved in establishing cytoplasmic microtubule arrays during cell migration, contributing to cell polarity and movement[3][4]. CLASP1 belongs to a protein family that includes its paralog CLASP2, with both sharing overlapping roles in microtubule regulation. However, CLASP1 has distinctive roles in cancer cell migration and neuronal differentiation[4]. There are no documented drug interactions, mechanisms of action for drugs, biomarker, or safety concern data directly associated with CLASP1 as a molecular target at this time.
