Cytoplasmic Receptor

Molecular classification
Receptor, Transcription factor, Nuclear receptor superfamily
01

Overview

Cytoplasmic receptors are intracellular proteins that bind lipid-soluble ligands within a cell’s interior—most notably steroid hormones—and directly regulate gene expression by acting as transcription factors after translocating into the nucleus upon activation. They mediate long-term cellular responses such as growth, differentiation, metabolism, and immune function.

Mechanism of action

Ligand binding induces conformational change, translocation to nucleus, and direct regulation of gene transcription via hormone response elements (HREs).
