Overview

Cytoskeleton-associated protein 4 (CKAP4) is a multifunctional type II transmembrane protein primarily located in the rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER) but also found at the plasma membrane where it can function as a ligand-activated receptor, notably for DKK1[2][4]. CKAP4 mediates the anchoring of the ER to microtubules and thus organizes the overall structure of the ER within the cell[5][6]. It plays key roles in cell proliferation, migration, and signal transduction and has been implicated in tumorigenesis, with its expression correlating with prognosis in certain cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma.
