Cytosolic carboxypeptidase 2 (AGBL2)

Target
AGBL2
Molecular classification
Enzyme (specifically, metallocarboxypeptidase), Deglutamylase
01

Overview

Cytosolic carboxypeptidase 2 (AGBL2) is a metallocarboxypeptidase enzyme that catalyzes deglutamylation—a process of removing polyglutamate side chains from the C-terminal tail of tubulin and other non-tubulin proteins. This activity regulates microtubule stability and function within cells. Disruption or aberrant activity of AGBL2 has been linked to diseases such as certain cancers (notably hepatocellular carcinoma) and rare rheumatologic and developmental syndromes. Subcellular localization studies indicate that AGBL2 is found in centrioles and the ciliary basal body, implicating it in cytoskeletal and ciliary functions.
