Target intelligence / Profile preview

Cytosolic carboxypeptidase 4 (AGBL1)

Target
AGBL1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Metallocarboxypeptidase
01

Overview

Cytosolic carboxypeptidase 4 (AGBL1) is a metallocarboxypeptidase enzyme that catalyzes the removal of polyglutamate side chains from glutamate residues at the C-terminal tail of tubulin and other non-tubulin proteins, a process critical for regulating protein function through reversible polyglutamylation. Mutations in AGBL1 are associated with dominant late-onset Fuchs corneal dystrophy, implicating it in ocular disease pathogenesis. The enzyme participates in protein modification pathways with roles in protein–protein interactions and cellular metabolism[1][9].
