Overview

This process initiates signaling cascades that drive T cell proliferation, differentiation, cytolytic effector function—including release of perforin and granzymes to induce target cell death—and clonal expansion[1][3][7][10]. Regulatory mechanisms such as CTLA-4 expression provide a check to prevent over-activation and autoimmunity[4]. The pathway is crucial in eliminating virus-infected or cancerous cells[10]. This entry does not reflect a single molecule or receptor target but instead a complex immunological signaling process. Therefore, it is not considered a canonical therapeutic “target” (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), but understanding and modulation of this pathway are central to immuno-oncology and related drug development.
