Overview

"T-cell mediated cytotoxicity" refers to the process whereby cytotoxic T lymphocytes (primarily CD8+ T cells) recognize and eliminate infected, malignant, or otherwise abnormal cells by inducing apoptosis through the release of cytotoxic granules (containing perforin and granzymes) or by engaging death ligands such as Fas ligand. This process is essential for adaptive immunity, suppressing viral infections and tumors, but can also contribute to tissue damage in autoimmunity or excessive immune responses
