D-box binding PAR bZIP transcription factor (DBP)

Target
DBP
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, PAR bZIP family (proline and acidic amino acid–rich basic leucine zipper transcription factors)
01

Overview

D-box binding PAR bZIP transcription factor (DBP) is a protein-coding transcription factor belonging to the PAR bZIP (Proline and Acidic amino acid–Rich basic leucine Zipper) family. It binds as a homo- or heterodimer to specific DNA promoter sequences and regulates the transcription of genes implicated in circadian rhythm, including albumin and CYP enzymes. DBP is notable for its pronounced circadian expression pattern, with mRNA and protein levels varying over the day, peaking in the evening. Diseases associated with DBP include type 2 diabetes mellitus, diabetes mellitus, and osteoporosis (mouse ortholog association). There are currently no known drugs targeting DBP directly, nor is it used as a biomarker in clinical settings.
