Dachsous cadherin-related 2 (DCHS2) is a large, atypical cadherin and cell adhesion protein that contains many cadherin domains and is encoded by the DCHS2 gene in humans. It is implicated in cell–cell adhesion processes, neural development, and morphogenesis of the hypothalamic–pituitary axis. Genetic association studies link DCHS2 variants with central nervous system functioning, including age-at-onset of Alzheimer's disease and cognitive impairment, pituitary development, as well as musculoskeletal traits such as bone strength and muscle mass. Although its molecular function is best characterized as a structural cell adhesion molecule, emerging evidence suggests broader roles in neurodevelopmental and structural physiology[1][2][3][4][6]. No known drugs currently target DCHS2 directly, and it is not considered a canonical drug target or receptor in current therapeutic paradigms[2][3][6].
