01

Overview

Danger-associated molecular pattern molecules (DAMPs), also known as alarmins or danger signals, are endogenous molecules released by stressed, damaged, or dying cells. They alert the body to tissue injury or cellular stress in the absence of infection, triggering sterile inflammation by binding to pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) on immune cells.

Mechanism of action

DAMPs bind to pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), such as TLRs and RAGE, activating downstream signaling pathways that initiate an inflammatory response.
