"Danger-associated molecular pattern release" refers to the process by which molecules known as damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs or alarmins) are released from stressed, dying, or damaged cells. These molecules act as endogenous 'danger signals' to activate and perpetuate the innate immune response by binding to pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), such as Toll-like receptors and the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). The release of DAMPs triggers sterile inflammation and helps mediate the body's response to cellular injury, trauma, or non-infectious tissue damage[1][2][3][4][6]. Pathologically, excessive or chronic DAMP release contributes to inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, cancer, and other conditions.
