Overview

DBF4 pseudogene 3 (DBF4P3) is a genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional copy or derivative of the DBF4 gene. Unlike the functional DBF4 gene, which encodes a regulatory subunit for the CDC7 kinase and is essential for cell cycle progression and DNA replication[4][6], DBF4P3 does not produce a functional protein, has no known biological activity, does not participate in disease processes, and is not a target for pharmacological agents. It is important to distinguish DBF4P3 from the functional DBF4 gene. DBF4 is the regulatory subunit of the CDC7-DBF4 kinase, which is critical for DNA replication initiation and cell cycle progression and has established roles in cell proliferation and disease; however, DBF4P3, being a pseudogene, does not encode an active protein and is not considered a therapeutic target[4][6][7].
