Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Natural antisense transcript (NAT)

Overview

DCHS1 antisense RNA 1 (DCHS1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the DCHS1 gene locus. Like other natural antisense transcripts (NATs), DCHS1-AS1 is presumed to participate in the locus-specific regulation of its sense gene (DCHS1) or related genes, possibly impacting gene expression through a variety of mechanisms including transcriptional interference, epigenetic modification, or RNA-RNA interactions. There is growing interest in DCHS1-AS1 and other similar lncRNAs as biomarkers for cancer prognosis and cellular senescence, though direct molecular functions and therapeutic targeting of DCHS1-AS1 remain minimally investigated to date. There are currently no drugs directly targeting DCHS1-AS1, and its role in disease biology is primarily of research interest at this stage.

Mechanism of action

Not established for any approved therapeutics; generally, natural antisense lncRNAs may regulate their paired coding genes via transcriptional interference, RNA duplexing, or chromatin remodeling

03

Biological functions

Likely involved in the regulation of gene expression, specifically of its sense partner DCHS1, as is typical for antisense RNAsPossible roles in cellular senescence process and anti-cellular aging protection, based on related lncRNA studies in healthy human aging models
04

Disease associations

Potential biomarker for cancer, particularly in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), and may also play a role in normal and pathological aging processes as suggested for a set of broadly dysregulated lncRNAs including DCHS1-AS1Further disease relevance remains largely unexplored
05

Biomarkers

May serve as a potential biomarker for prognosis in certain cancer types, as suggested by a pan-cancer analysis
