Overview

DDB1- and CUL4-associated factor 12-like protein 2 (DCAF12L2) is a member of the WD repeat protein family, characterized by repeating units facilitating protein-protein interactions and assembly of multiprotein complexes. DCAF12L2 is thought to function as an adapter or substrate recognition component in cullin-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes, specifically the CUL4-DDB1 complex, though its direct biochemical activities and substrates remain uncharacterized. The gene is an intronless retrocopy, is expressed in humans, and is conserved across several mammals. While WD repeat proteins in general are implicated in diverse processes such as cell cycle regulation, signal transduction, and apoptosis, the precise physiological and pathological roles of DCAF12L2 remain unclear, and it is not presently considered a validated therapeutic target[4][6][7].
