DDC antisense RNA 1 (DDC-AS1)

Target
DDC-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

DDC antisense RNA 1 (DDC-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in an antisense orientation to the DDC (Aromatic L-Amino Acid Decarboxylase) gene[3][5]. As with other antisense RNAs, it is thought to regulate gene expression by mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, modification of chromatin state, or stabilization/destabilization of sense mRNA[1][2][4]. DDC-AS1 is primarily classified as a lncRNA, and there is limited functional or translational data directly linking this transcript to therapeutic targeting or as a biomarker. Associations have been made with Aromatic L-Amino Acid Decarboxylase Deficiency, but its direct mechanistic involvement remains unclear[3]. Like other antisense RNAs, it could potentially contribute to gene regulation in both normal physiology and disease, though detailed functional studies for DDC-AS1 are lacking[1][3].

Mechanism of action

No drugs specifically target DDC-AS1; however, in general, antisense RNAs can be modulated by antisense oligonucleotides, leading to RNase H-mediated RNA degradation or modulation of RNA processing[1][4].
