Overview

DEAD-box helicase 19A (DDX19A) is an ATP-dependent RNA helicase and member of the DEAD-box family of proteins, characterized by the conserved motif *Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp* (DEAD)[3]. DDX19A is responsible for binding and remodeling structured RNAs and RNA-protein complexes, performing ATP-driven unwinding of RNA helices. It is typically involved in the export of mature mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and participates broadly in RNA metabolism, including regulation of RNA folding, ribonucleoprotein (RNP) rearrangements, and maintaining proper RNA structure[1][2][3]. DEAD-box helicases, including DDX19A, function as general RNA chaperones, accelerating the remodeling and folding of structured RNAs by local unwinding and disruption of secondary and tertiary structures in an ATP-dependent manner[1][2]. Dysregulation of similar RNA helicases is linked to diseases such as cancer and infection, but DDX19A-specific roles are still being clarified[3].
