DEAD-box helicase 39A pseudogene 1 (DDX39AP1) is an inactive genetic copy related to the enzyme DEAD-box helicase 39A (DDX39A). Pseudogenes such as DDX39AP1 do not encode functional proteins and lack the biological activities of the parent gene. The active gene DDX39A encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, a group of ATP-dependent RNA helicases involved in mRNA export, RNA metabolism, alternative splicing, and immune regulation. DDX39A plays a role in the prognosis of certain tumors and can affect antiviral responses through the regulation of type I interferon production. DDX39A is not currently a direct therapeutic target, and no approved drugs are known to directly modulate its activity.
