DEAD-box helicase 58 (RIG-I)

Target
RIG-I
Molecular classification
DEAD box helicase family, RLR subfamily, RNA helicase, Pattern Recognition Receptor (PRR)
01

Overview

DDX58, also known as RIG-I, is a cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptor that plays a central role in the innate immune response. It recognizes viral double-stranded RNA with 5' triphosphate ends, activating downstream signaling cascades leading to the production of type I interferons and proinflammatory cytokines. RIG-I is crucial for antiviral defense and is involved in the regulation of inflammation, autophagy, apoptosis, and tumor immune responses. Mutations can lead to excessive interferon pathway activation, and variants are associated with susceptibility to severe influenza infection and autoimmune diseases. High expression levels correlate with prognosis across multiple cancers.
