Target intelligence / Profile preview
Dead end protein homolog 1 (DND1) is an RNA-binding protein essential for germline development in vertebrates[1][2][3][4][6]. It regulates gene expression by binding to U-rich regions in the 3' untranslated regions of mRNAs and prevents microRNA-mediated repression by blocking access of microRNAs to their target mRNAs[2][3][4]. DND1 is required to promote translation of germline determinants such as nanos1 and is necessary for the survival and maintenance of primordial germ cells but is not essential for their migration[1][4]. It is implicated in the development of certain cancers and reproductive disorders[3][4].
