Overview

DEAQ-box RNA dependent ATPase 1 (DQX1) is a member of the DEAD/H box protein family, characterized by a unique DEAQ motif (substituting for the more common DEAH motif) and the absence of a complete helicase motif. DQX1 is highly conserved between human and mouse, and its gene is located on human chromosome 2p13. DQX1 is most highly expressed in muscle and liver, but transcripts are present across multiple tissues. The protein shares significant phylogenetic similarity with yeast pre-mRNA processing proteins and other mammalian DEAD box family members. Although related to RNA helicases, DQX1 may not be an active helicase due to the absence of specific motifs, but it is thought to play a role in RNA metabolism. Evidence for direct involvement in disease or as a drug target is lacking, though expression data suggest possible relevance to certain tumors.
