Death associated protein 3 pseudogene 2 (DAP3P2) is a nonfunctional gene segment that resembles the protein-coding gene DAP3. Pseudogenes such as DAP3P2 arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically accumulate mutations preventing them from producing functional proteins. While most pseudogenes do not have biological activity, some can act as regulatory RNAs affecting the expression of their parent genes, but there is no evidence for DAP3P2 having such a function specifically[2][8]. DAP3P2 is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is it implicated directly in any disease or drug interaction. The functional version, DAP3, is involved in mitochondrial function and apoptosis, and has relevance for cancer biology, but this does not apply to the pseudogene DAP3P2[1][3][7].
