Overview

Dehydropeptidase I (DHP-I), also known as membrane dipeptidase or DPEP1, is a zinc-dependent enzyme predominantly found in the kidneys. It plays a crucial role in the metabolism and hydrolysis of various dipeptides and certain antibiotics, most notably carbapenems such as imipenem. Inhibition of DHP-I by cilastatin is essential for maintaining the therapeutic efficacy of imipenem.
