DEK proto-oncogene (DEK) encodes a ubiquitously expressed nuclear chromatin protein involved in multiple nuclear processes, including altering DNA topology (such as positive supercoiling and catenation), regulating mRNA splice site selection, and acting as a hub for recruiting histones, histone modifiers, and chromatin remodeling factors[1][2][3][5]. DEK has a SAP domain for DNA binding and can interact with both cruciform and supercoiled DNA, modifying chromatin structure and potentially repressing or activating gene transcription[1][3][4]. Overexpression and chromosomal rearrangements of DEK are linked to various cancers, and autoantibodies to DEK have been identified in some autoimmune diseases[3][5].
