Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity (DTH)

Target
DTH
Molecular classification
Immune response, T cell-mediated immunity
01

Overview

Delayed-type hypersensitivity represents a cell-mediated immune mechanism where sensitized T lymphocytes orchestrate an inflammatory response upon re-exposure to specific antigens. This process is distinct from antibody-mediated immunity both in timing and cellular participants. The resulting tissue injury can be beneficial when targeting pathogens but may cause pathology if misdirected against harmless substances or self-antigens.
