Deleted in Colorectal Carcinoma Protein (DCC)

Target
DCC
Molecular classification
Transmembrane receptor, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

Deleted in colorectal carcinoma (DCC) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the DCC gene, located on chromosome 18q21 in humans. It functions as a tumor suppressor and as a receptor for netrin-1, playing a role in both cancer biology and neural development. DCC acts as a dependence receptor. In the absence of its ligand netrin-1, it induces apoptosis; when bound to netrin-1, it promotes cell survival. Loss or reduced expression of DCC is frequently observed in advanced colorectal cancers and other malignancies. DCC also functions as an axon guidance receptor critical for proper wiring of the brain and spinal cord.
