Delta-13-prostaglandin reductase (also known as 15-oxoprostaglandin Δ13-reductase) is an enzyme involved in the catabolism of prostaglandins, specifically catalyzing the reduction of the double bond at the 13-14 position of 15-ketoprostaglandins. This reaction is a key step in the metabolic inactivation of pro- and anti-inflammatory eicosanoids. It plays a critical role in regulating adipogenesis via modulation of PPARγ activity. The enzyme utilizes NADPH as a cofactor and belongs to the medium-chain dehydrogenase/reductase superfamily. Inhibition or modulation may affect insulin sensitivity or adipogenesis, making it a potential therapeutic target in metabolic diseases.
