Demethylmenaquinone methyltransferase (MenG) is an enzyme that catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of menaquinone (vitamin K2) in bacteria. It transfers a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to demethylmenaquinone (DMK), producing menaquinone (MK). MenG is essential for bacterial respiration and energy production but is absent in humans, making it a promising target for antibacterial drug development.
Inhibition of demethylmenaquinone methyltransferase activity, leading to impaired menaquinone biosynthesis and disruption of bacterial respiration.
