Denatured extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, primarily collagen and elastin, are ECM components that have lost their native three-dimensional conformation due to physical, chemical, or enzymatic processes. This denaturation alters their biochemical properties and biological interactions, leading to changes in cell adhesion, migration, differentiation, wound healing, fibrosis, tumor invasion, and immune cell activation. They are targets indirectly through modulation of their production or degradation.
