Dendrin is a DNA-binding transcription factor localized in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, most notably expressed in dendritic spines of neurons and in kidney podocyte foot processes[1][2][3][4][7]. It is implicated in positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II and is known to promote apoptosis of glomerular podocytes, specialized kidney cells essential for the filtration barrier in urine formation[2][3][7]. Dendrin interacts with proteins such as nephrin, CD2AP, YAP1, and others, and has reported associations with several neurological, renal, and immune-related diseases[1][2]. Currently, dendrin is not recognized as a direct therapeutic target or drug receptor, and there are no drugs known to act directly on this protein.
