Target intelligence / Profile preview

Dendritic Cell–Specific Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-3-Grabbing Nonintegrin (DC-SIGN)

Target
DC-SIGN
Molecular classification
C-type lectin superfamily, Type II transmembrane glycoprotein, Receptor
01

Overview

DC-SIGN/CD209 is a multifunctional pattern recognition receptor central to both innate immunity—through direct pathogen binding—and adaptive immunity via antigen presentation. Its dual roles make it both a facilitator of host defense mechanisms and a potential vulnerability exploited by diverse pathogens.

Other names
CD209
02

Mechanism of action

Targeting antigens to DC-SIGN can enhance vaccine efficacy by improving antigen delivery/presentation. Blockade or modulation of DC-SIGN may also have therapeutic potential against infections where the receptor facilitates pathogen entry or immune evasion.
