Dendritic cell-mediated activation is essential for generating robust cytotoxic responses against tumors. By presenting processed tumor-derived peptides on MHC class I molecules along with necessary co-stimulatory signals, mature dendritic cells prime naïve CD8+ T lymphocytes into effector CTLs capable of recognizing and destroying malignant targets throughout the body.
