This refers to a therapeutic platform in which autologous dendritic cells from a patient are ex vivo loaded with melanoma-associated antigens—proteins or peptides derived from the patient’s own tumor or established melanoma cell lines. These antigen-loaded dendritic cells are then infused back into the patient, where they present the tumor-associated peptides to naïve T cells, priming a tumor-specific adaptive immune response. This strategy has shown promise in clinical studies as a personal immunotherapy for melanoma and other cancers, though the strategy is best characterized as a cellular immunotherapy rather than targeting a specific molecular receptor or protein.
