DEC205 (CD205) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the C-type lectin receptor family. It is primarily recognized as an endocytic receptor highly expressed on dendritic cells (DCs), especially the CD8+ subset, as well as on cortical thymic epithelial cells, certain B cell populations, monocytes, and at lower levels on other immune cells such as NK and T lymphocytes. It mediates efficient endocytosis of antigens for presentation via MHC class I and II, recognizes apoptotic/necrotic cells, and binds CpG oligonucleotides, contributing to immune activation. Targeting antigens to DEC205 has been explored in vaccine development and cancer immunotherapy.
