Overview

Dengue virus antigens refer to the protein components of the dengue virus (DENV) that are recognized by the host immune system. DENV is a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Flaviviridae family and genus Flavivirus. It is primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and causes dengue fever, which can progress to severe forms such as dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. The antigens are classified into structural (Capsid, pre-membrane/membrane, and envelope proteins) and nonstructural (NS1-NS5) proteins. NS1 is a key diagnostic target, while the E protein is the main target for neutralizing antibodies. There are five serotypes of DENV (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, DENV-4, and DENV-5).
