Target intelligence / Profile preview
Dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) is one of four antigenically distinct serotypes of the dengue virus, which belongs to the family Flaviviridae and genus Flavivirus. DENV-2 is a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA virus with a genome size of approximately 11 kilobases. The virus is primarily transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti. Infection with DENV-2 can result in mild dengue fever or severe dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome. Secondary infection with DENV‑2 increases risk for these severe outcomes. The Cosmopolitan genotype is currently the most widespread globally.
