Target intelligence / Profile preview
Dengue virus type 2 (DENV-2) is one of four serotypes of the dengue virus, a member of the Flaviviridae family. DENV-2 is a major cause of dengue fever and severe dengue, including dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). It is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti. The viral genome encodes structural (C, prM, E) and nonstructural (NS1-NS5) proteins, with NS proteins representing therapeutic targets, particularly those involved in the RNA replication complex. Secondary infection with DENV-2 increases risk of severe disease due to mechanisms like antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE).
