Target intelligence / Profile preview
Dengue virus type 3 (DENV-3) is one of four antigenically distinct serotypes of the dengue virus. It is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and causes dengue fever in humans. Infection with DENV-3 provides lifelong immunity to this serotype but not to others. Secondary infection by another serotype increases the risk of severe disease. Key proteins like NS3 protease/helicase and NS5 polymerase are potential drug targets. NS1 antigen is used for diagnostics.
