The envelope (E) protein of dengue virus type 4 (DENV-4) is a structural glycoprotein located on the surface of the virion. It mediates receptor binding and membrane fusion, essential for infectivity and pathogenesis. The E protein is also a primary immunogen, eliciting neutralizing antibodies and a major target for vaccine development. It consists of three domains (EDI, EDII, EDIII), with EDIII being crucial for receptor binding and containing neutralizing epitopes. Glycosylation at Asn153 and Asn67 is important for DC-SIGN recognition. The E protein is a key component of dengue vaccine candidates.
