Dental biofilm bacteria refer to the diverse microbial communities that form structured biofilms on oral surfaces. These biofilms are central to the development of major oral diseases, including dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. The biofilm structure provides a protective environment for bacteria and facilitates interspecies interactions, enhancing their resistance to host defenses and antimicrobial agents. Therapeutic strategies aim to disrupt biofilm formation, eradicate pathogenic bacteria, or modulate the host response.
