Overview
DNASE1L3 is a secreted deoxyribonuclease that degrades both single- and double-stranded DNA. It plays a critical role in clearing extracellular DNA, preventing the accumulation of self-DNA that can trigger autoimmune responses. Mutations in DNASE1L3 are associated with increased risk of autoimmune diseases like SLE. It also functions in intracellular apoptosis.
