Overview

Deoxyuridine triphosphatase pseudogene 5 (DUTP5) is a pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional copy of the active DUT gene, which encodes Deoxyuridine triphosphatase (dUTPase). The functional DUT gene encodes an enzyme essential for nucleotide metabolism: it hydrolyzes dUTP to dUMP, both providing precursors for thymidylate synthesis and limiting intracellular dUTP levels to prevent uracil incorporation into DNA, which can result in DNA damage and cell death. DUTP5 itself does not code for an active enzyme and has no known biological or disease role. Therapeutic relevance and drug interactions are associated only with the active DUT enzyme, not with pseudogenes like DUTP5. If your focus is therapeutic targets, DUTP5 is not considered a drug target or relevant biomolecule; instead, information should be sought for the active DUT (deoxyuridine triphosphatase) gene and protein.
