Overview

Dermal tissue regeneration refers to the process by which the dermal layer of the skin is restored after injury or damage. This process requires the coordinated action of multiple cellular and molecular components, including fibroblasts, keratinocytes, immune cells, extracellular matrix proteins (such as collagen), growth factors (e.g. TGF-β, PDGF, VEGF), and cytokines. The phases of repair typically include inflammation, formation of new tissue (proliferation), extracellular matrix deposition, and remodeling. Regenerative outcomes aim to restore both the structure and function of the dermis while minimizing scarring. Impaired dermal regeneration leads to chronic wounds or excessive scarring, and various therapeutic interventions, including growth factor therapies, stem cell-derived exosomes, and engineered biomaterials, target different components of this regenerative cascade[1][2][7][9].
