Overview

Dermatophagoides siboney allergen components are a group of proteins derived from the house dust mite species D. siboney, which is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions such as the Caribbean. These allergens, most notably the major allergens Der s 1 (a cysteine protease) and Der s 2 (an NPC2 family protein), are potent triggers of Type I hypersensitivity reactions in sensitized individuals. They function biologically as enzymes or lipid-binding proteins within the mite's digestive system but act as environmental antigens that cross-link IgE on the surface of mast cells and basophils in humans. In a therapeutic context, these allergen components are the primary constituents of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) products, such as the standardized extract VALERGEN-S.
