DERPC proline and glycine rich nuclear protein (DERPC)

Target
DERPC

Overview

DERPC proline and glycine rich nuclear protein is a strongly basic, proline- and glycine-rich protein localized to the nucleus. It has been identified as ubiquitously expressed, with higher levels in several tissues and moderate in prostate. Importantly, DERPC expression is significantly decreased in renal (67%) and prostate (33%) tumors, supporting its putative role as a tumor suppressor. Experimental overexpression of DERPC inhibits prostate tumor cell growth and alters nuclear morphology, highlighting its significance in cell division and the regulation of gene expression. However, DERPC is still under basic research, and neither drugs nor direct therapeutic applications are available at present.
