Deubiquitinating enzyme 3 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; related to enzyme class “Deubiquitinating enzyme”)
01

Overview

The deubiquitinating enzyme 3 pseudogene (ENSG00000254923; LOC392196) is a non-protein-coding sequence in the human genome, bearing similarity to deubiquitinating enzymes but lacking enzymatic activity or established biological function[5]. Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) are a family of proteases that remove ubiquitin from proteins and have major roles in regulating protein degradation, cell signaling, DNA repair, and epigenetic modification[1][2][4]. However, pseudogenes such as this one do not code for a functional enzyme and thus do not carry out these molecular functions nor serve as current therapeutic targets. The naming of this pseudogene reflects historical sequence similarity to active DUB gene family members (such as ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolases or ubiquitin-specific peptidases) but should not be confused with functional proteins of the DUB superfamily[5].
