Developing brain homeobox protein 2 (DBX2) is a homeodomain-containing transcription factor critical for the development of the central nervous system, where it regulates neural tube and brain formation, neural patterning, and differentiation[1][3][9][11]. Its expression has been linked to cancer biology, including promoting glioblastoma development and association with tumor progression in hepatocellular carcinoma and endometrial cancer[1][3]. DBX2 is encoded by the DBX2 gene located on chromosome 12 in humans[1][3][9]. It enables DNA-binding to regulatory regions, especially those recognized by RNA polymerase II, and is involved in multiple processes that govern neural progenitor cell fate and cell cycle control[3][11]. While DBX2 is a plausible molecular target in oncology and neurodevelopmental research, there are currently no approved drugs directly targeting this protein.
