DPPA3 pseudogene 2 (DPPA3P2) is an intronless locus related to the protein-coding DPPA3 (STELLA/PGC7) gene. DPPA3P2 itself is considered non-functional—it does not code for a protein and has no known biological activity or disease associations. The functional homolog, DPPA3, acts as a maternal factor essential for epigenetic reprogramming in zygotes, protecting the maternal genome from demethylation and supporting normal progression through early embryogenesis[2][3][1]. DPPA3P2 is thus best viewed as a non-coding pseudogene detected in gene annotation screens.
