Overview

Developmental pluripotency associated 5 pseudogene 1 (DPPA5P1) is formally described as a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences resembling functional genes but typically lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to mutations or transcriptional inactivity. DPPA5P1 is related by sequence homology to the developmental pluripotency associated 5 gene (DPPA5), which encodes a protein expressed in pluripotent stem cells and critical for maintaining pluripotency and early embryonic development. However, DPPA5P1 itself is not generally transcribed into a functional protein and is not a direct therapeutic target in itself[8][1][5]. DPPA5 (without the "P1" suffix) is the functional protein-coding gene that plays a role in cell pluripotency and early embryogenesis[10]. DPPA5P1 is a pseudogene copy of DPPA5 and, as such, does not encode an active receptor, enzyme, or any molecular function that would define it as a therapeutic target[8]. Some gene databases and research supply sites may list this locus for completeness in genomic studies, but it is not characterized as a target molecule in pharmacology or drug development[8][1].
